Bluefish are here and birds are all over. Stripers are still being caught in nice quantities. Sizes are a little smaller (15-20 lb. ranges), but there are still some nice cows out there also.
As usual, the winds are upon us again and ocean fishing is pretty tough to do by boat. Those in the inlet are still anchoring by the bars and using clam. The past few days, the bite was best in the earlier morning or late afternoon.
Some are drifting eels and/or spot in their favorite rips, but I don't think they have been as successful as the guys anchoring up.
Graveling Point and Ohio Ave., has still been producing fish both from the banks and for those anchored up by boat.
If you are lucky enough to be able to spot the massive bunker pods when they're here, have a treble hook ready and snag some. Some of the best fishing days we've had this year is when the bass are chasing the bunker and we luckily were in the right place at the right time. Lots of fun.
The colder weather looks to be heading our way. For those who have their boats here at the marina, be aware that we will be shutting down the water within the next week so you may want to do a good cleaning of your boat beforehand.
Always call ahead to check for hours of operation at the marina at this time of year especially with the winds, rain etc. We may only be open in the first part of the morning.
