2010 NJ Fishing Regulations
 
Fish are measured from tip of snout to tip of tail (except black sea bass). Cleaning or filleting of fish with a minimum size limit while at sea is prohibited.

Limits
Bluefish
 
15 fish limit; any size.
Weakfish

At least 13"; 1 fish limit.
Black Sea Bass

At least 12.5 inches; 25 fish limit; Jan. 1st to Dec. 31st.
Summer Flounder

At least 18"; 6 fish limit; May 23rd to Sep. 4th.
Winter Flounder

At least 12"; 2 fish limit; March 23rd to May 21st.
Striped Bass or Hybrid Striped Bass

At least 28"; 2 fish limit.
Tautog

At least 14"; Open seasons:
4 FISH - Jan. 1st - April. 30th
May1- July 15 CLOSED
1 fish - July 16 - Nov. 15 1 FISH
6 fish - Nov. 16 - Dec. 31st.
   
Other Species
Posession Limit
Shark
At least 48"; 2 fish per vessel
Blue Crab
Peeler or Shedder - 3"
Soft - 3 1/2"
Hard - 4 1/2"
Recreational Limit - One Bushel
Crab pot/Trot line Seasons:
Delaware Bay and tributaries
Apr. 6th - Dec. 4th
All other waters
Mar. 15th - Dec. 30th
Hard Clam
Recreational limit: 150 clams; no harvest on Sunday. License required.
American Eel
At least 6"; 50 fish limit.
Black Drum
At least 16"; 3 fish limit.
Cobia
At least 37"; 2 fish limit.
Cod
At least 21"; no limit.
Haddock
At least 21"; no limit.
King Mackerel
At least 23"; 3 fish limit.
Pollock
At least 19"; no limit.
Red Drum
At least 18"- 21"; 1 fish limit.
Scup (Porgy)
At least 9"; 50 fish limit.
Jan. 1st - Feb. 28th
July 1st - Dec. 31st
Shad
At least 6"; no limit.
Spanish Mackerel
At least 14"; 10 fish limit.
Lobster
At least 3 3/8"; 6 fish limit.
Prohibited Species
It is illegal to take, possess or land any of the following species:
Bigeye Sand Tiger Shark
Shortnose Sturgeon
Atlantic Sturgeon
Sand Tiger Shark
Basking Shark
Whale Shark
White Shark
